Maggie O’Connor

MS, LCMHC

Hi, I’m Maggie, and I’m excited about the opportunity to work with you and/or your child. My goal is to help all people know that they are valued and important. I primarily work with children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues, and other general life struggles because we all recognize that life is hard right now. I also work with the parents of my clients to support them in helping their children and families.

I take a person-centered approach with each client with whom I work. Therefore, I tailor my therapeutic style to each client and use the treatment modality that I think will work best for them. I often rely on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps individuals understand the interaction between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how to improve them. I also tend to bring in mindfulness techniques to teach clients how to regulate themselves when they become distressed or upset. Additionally, I can incorporate Christian counseling as requested.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Furman University, where I majored in psychology and religion, and my Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (#17693), and I have clinical experience helping individuals in multiple settings, including schools, partial hospitalization programs, outpatient therapy, and private practice. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, being outside, reading, and serving others.
